It was March 14th 2015, I was 38 weeks and 6 days pregnant, Casey and I went to a friend's wedding and everything seemed fine. When we got home that night my contractions started getting more intense than the normal Braxton Hicks contractions. They were lower and I knew something was different. I tried to get some sleep knowing that this could be it! I got no sleep that night and at 6 a.m. I went to the bathroom and when I got back in the bed I told Casey that my contractions were really intense and I thought this is the real thing. As soon as I said that, my water broke and I jumped out of bed! We packed everything and I called my doula, Katy Soong. She met us at the hospital at around 7 a.m. When I got checked in triage, I was shockingly only at one centimeter dilated and 90% effaced. My first thought was that this is going to be a long road and I may not be able to have my natural birth since my water broke and I was only at one centimeter. I was worried because I knew that after 24 hours of your water being broken, there's a risk for infection.
When I got in the room, I mostly sat on the birth ball and bounced and walked around the hospital with Katy while she did counter pressure on my lower back, which really helped the contractions. Katy encouraged me the whole time and was there when I needed her. Without her and my husband, I wouldn't have been able to do it! At 9:15am I lost my mucus plug and by 10:30am contractions were about 6 minutes apart. At 12:00pm I was 2cm, 90% effaced, -1 station and that was when the contractions started to get almost unbearable. Around 1:00pm I got in the shower/tub and actually got to the point where I used my "code word" to get the epidural, but pushed through and kept going. At 2:15pm I got another vaginal exam: 4cm, 90%, -1 station effaced got in the tub and then the contractions were so bad that I just wanted to get out of the tub and get the epidural. Once again, I pushed through it with the help of Katy and my husband. Labor was moving so quickly and within 30 minutes I was 6-7cm, 90%, -1 station. My husband prayed over me and we had worship music playing the whole time. Then, at 3:05pm I was complete! It was time to push!! I had gone from 4cm to 10cm in less than an hour! All I could think was that I wasn't going to make it, I felt like I wanted to pass out, but I did it! I had the best support system and nurses. At 3:27pm on March 15, I had my baby girl!!! Vaginal delivery with no medication!! My baby was here and what a joy she is!! Adalynn Grace weighed 6 pounds and 15 ounces, was 20 inches long.
